What's the difference between 1U and 2U servers? PDF Print E-mail

For colocation, A1isp does not charge a price difference for 1U vs 2U server sizes.

For those with restrictions on space, for example you have a quarter rack, you'll want to be able to fit in as many servers as possible. The reduction in size often comes at a cost premium, however, and in some cases it might make more sense for you to pay for more rackspace than to fit in smaller servers.

1U servers usually have lots of fans to keep the air moving fast. These fast fans can really increase the power consumption, so consider whether you're better off looking for a 2U server, if you don't need to save space.

2U servers generally fit more disk drive bays and have more room for expansion cards.

A1isp can advise on the power requirements of your server, just contact us and we will be happy to estimate the cost for you.
