What Dell rails do I need? PDF Print E-mail

Choosing the multitude of rails that Dell offers can be tricky. We explain the different options and whether you can use them in our racks.

The main feature of all our racks is that they have square holes and 4 post frames.

As a result, only some of the Dell rack options will be suitable.

Sliding rails make it easier to access the server for maintenance. To remove the top cover, you need only slide the server forward and it is held in the rack. For most servers this is unnecessary as such maintenance is usually quite rare.

Cable management arms are not necessary in our racks and we specifically discourage their use, as they can often impinge on surrounding cables or servers. Please do not bring cable management arms to the datacentre.

Suitable rails

 2/4-Post Static Rack Rails
Rapid Rails for Dell and other 4 post square hole racks
 Rapid Rails Sliding
 Rapid/Versa Rack Rails (eg. 2970)

Unsuitable rails

Versa rails static for 4 post round hole racks
2 post rails for 2 post telco racks
 Versa Rails Sliding
Dell Sliding Versa Rails for use in Third Party Racks, Round Hole

This list is not exhaustive and we would recommend you contact us before purchasing if you are not sure which option is best for your particular server.
