![]() Rack Rails Installation All servers installed in our colocation racks must use rack rails. These are often an optional extra when buying new servers, so if you are buying a server, make sure they're included. We recommend sliding adjustable rails. We do not permit the use of shelves as these take up additional space in the rack. If you are renting rackspace, then it is up to you how you mount equipment in the rack; however it must be secure and not liable to fall out when the rack is opened. In addition you must obey the hot/cold aisle infrastructure. Equipment mounted correctly will be removed if dangerous. Manufacturers often use different brand names to describe rails but the important feature is that they fit 4-post, square hole racks. For an explanation of the different Dell options, please read the specific Dell rails page. The only exception to this rack mounting rule is when you wish to colocate small switches, firewalls etc; but you must advise us before installation so we can provide power.
